Outrageously Crunchy Broccoli Slaw with Sesame Ginger Dressing

Cheeky Coconut Cherry Bombs

Tart, cheeky, and surprisingly creamy; these cherry bombs are a tiny reminiscent of the cherry’s & cream Danish pastries from my childhood’s past.

I’m on a roll…with making balls these days. (sorry) But seriously I can’t stop experimenting and dreaming up recipes for raw and raw-ish treat balls. They are magic in helping me get over my cray cray sugar addiction! A lil date and a lil dried cherry goes a long way folks. (more…)

Raw Peanut butter Cookie Dough Bites

022013Naturally sweet and chewy, dabbled with chunks of choc chips and kissed with peanut butter… These taste just like the real deal.

I’m a second stomach kinda gal. I may have polished off 3 bowls of chilli for dinner but that does stop the pangs of ‘I WANT CHOCOLATE’ coming from my brain.

Key-word; Brain. The brain tricks us eating into sugar when we are sad, lonely and bored all the time. Admittedly I usually decide its easier to go with the flow and indulge instead of letting it taunt me all night. But post Christmas sugar blitz I have been trying to break the cycle with some faux-sweet treats:

  • I have found the perfect chocolate-mint tea that sometimes satisfies (when paired with 3 squares 90% dark chocolate)
  • Berry smoothies work
  • Bananas dipped in peanut butter (for the peanut butta lova’s)
  • Banana ‘icecream’ (but I may or may not have broke my food processor blending dates)

And then there is these…. cookie dough balls….um yeah. Packed to the brim with energizing and satisfying nuts, sweetened with dates, and flavoured with peanut butter. h e l l y e a h (more…)

Quinoa Pilaf with Mushroom & Kale

033010What’s a pilaf? I don’t know but it sounds pretty cool.

Savory mushrooms, tart kale and nutty quinoa blend together in this pretty bowl of quinoa!

Do you ever get into a rut where you are buying the exact same vegetables every week but preparing them in different ways? That is me with sweet potatoes, peppers and spinach. And I need a change I tell you! These mushrooms snuck up on me in the back of the fridge, reminding me how neglectful I have been.

Portobello mushrooms do good WORK in this pilaf, meaty and savory as they are. (more…)

Irresistably Chewy Protein Cookies {with Everything But The Kitchen Sink}

011023Oats, Quinoa, Peanut butter, Banana, Sunflower Seeds, Dates, Cranberries, Protein Powder, Chocolate Chips and sweetened with maple syrup.

I have an entertaining/dangerous habit of haphazardly throwing everything iv ever enjoyed into a bowl when baking sans recipe. Many a time it results in a creation where the batter tastes amazing but the finished product somewhat…confusing. Regardless, there is something very meditative about baking your own dream creation– especially when it turns out like these guys! I have been craving cookies like nobody’s business lately, but I wanted a variety that rather than making you eat 9 in a row, satisfied your tummy growls for more than a second.

Enter these gluten free, high fiber, protein PACKED monster cookies. They are addictively tasty in the way you love the average peanut butter choco chip. But these will make you feel amazing and keep you high energy between meals. (more…)

Roasted Garlic Falafel Bites {baked}

008027Day 5 of my snowed-in retreat. Being fun-employed and stuck at home in this January slop has its perks.

And ofcourse endless amount of time messing up the kitchen. Yesterdays exciting project was mastering the Healthy Falafel. Oh yes. and because I had copious amounts of time on my hand I roasted the garlic to put in said falafel bites. Did it make a huge difference in taste? I’m not going to say yes. But do not be shy on the garlic regardless.

These are the perfect little balls of convenient protein, fiber and tastiness. Baked not fried,  the texture is lightly crunchy on the outside and soft and smooth on the inside. The flavour is zesty, garlic-y and lightly seasoned with parsley. If you are a fan of traditional falafel, which usually comes deep fried, tossed in a huge white pita and smothered with some sort of magic mayo sauce…you will chomp these healthy counterparts happily 🙂 (more…)

I urge you to not take this personally. I really do appreciate you and the energy you provide. However at this time you do not meet the criteria that makes me want to jump out of bed first thing in the morning when its -25 outside. Furthermore you do not make me feel good when you send an icy shiver down my spine. You do not make the chilly transition from fleecy pyjama set to clothes very easy. On that note you don’t even fill the deep dark cave I call my tummy. (but we wont get into that)

Hungry & Cold

Happy Frosty Thursday everyone 🙂 This morning as I was begrudgingly digging myself out of my mile-high duvet, I had a craving for something sweet and filling. Like a cinnabon. or banana cake or poutine. I just couldn’t face another green smoothie morning with the wack temperatures that are happenin’ out there.

My healthy options weren’t looking too promising. I was too famished to squander minutes making waffles or pancakes or other baked wonders. Oatmeal didn’t tempt me much… I find it hard to enjoy oatmeal without brown sugar, anyone else? You can try and pretend to enjoy it with just fruit but it most likely reminds you of soft cement.

ENTER the Date, Walnut and Banana oatmeal bowl; The dates and banana transform it into something so  sweet and pleasing you will think you are eating dessert for breakfast. Equally filling and warming, you will wonder where its been all your life. Perfect for the coldest days of the year. (more…)
